Arwyn Woolcock, councillor for Lower Brynamman, has formally notified the council of his resignation from the post of Deputy Leader, and his cabinet portfolio of Finance and Transformation. There will be a Special Council on 18th February to appoint a replacement.

It appears that the appointment procedure will follow the scheduled meeting of the 18th February with the Chief Constable, and not replace it. This year’s presentation by South Wales Police has already been deferred once. Since members have many questions about the performance of SWP in 2009/10, it is important that we do not lose this opportunity.

Rumours about the reasons for Cllr Woolcock’s resignation have been rife, ranging from the personal to disagreements about Council strategy. It is to be hoped that these will be put to rest on or before the 18th.
