Councillor for East Central ward on Coedffranc Town Council Learn more

Housing transfer ballot forms have gone out

by franklittle on 19 February, 2010

It is disturbing that non-Labour members had to find out from third parties that this significant event had occurred, rather than in council. Housing scrutiny committee members were not told. Even notifiying us in the weekly councillor update would have been better than keeping us in the dark. I only found out via a member who has extensive council housing in his ward. This comes after what I thought was increasing democratisation on Neath Port Talbot CBC after the 2008 elections.

I understand that mobile phone responses will be accepted. There are one or two of us on the council with experience of IT, and who have followed reports of misuse of electronic ballots in some states of the Union, who should surely have been taken into the confidence of the organisers of the ballot, so that our minds could have been put at rest.

Moreover, at the time of this posting, the official council web-site has not yet caught up with the news. I am sure that interested citizens would want to know how the ballot is to be conducted and when it closes.

I fear that this ballot is going to be lost, or even finish up in the courts, because of the organisers giving the appearance of acting underhandedly.
