Floods

Finally, I have got around to writing about the inundation of yesterday morning. If it had not been for an important Personnel Committee meeting (the delicate negotiations with the unions over the staffing budget were on the agenda), I would have been in Cadoxton that morning. If I had been aware of how great the flood was, I would have presented my apologies to the committee – I am sure my fellow-members would have respected my priorities. By the time I arrived back in the ward, just after 13:00, the worst was over and only traces of mud and gravel, where they should not have been, betrayed the extent of the waters.

The more I pieced together stories during the course of the afternoon and evening, the more I was horrified by the effects of the flood and the delay in dealing with it. I gather that praise is due to the fire service who were able to give some assistance while waiting for the council equipment to arrive. I have put down a question to Council about our response. I hope to call on residents during Saturday to hear their experiences and complete the picture.

Finally, we should recognise that Cadoxton was not the only ward to feel the effects of the heavy rain this week and I offer my sympathies to those other areas which suffered.
